Virginia International Raceway's Emergency Services is here to serve our race participants, guests, and spectators. VIR hosts numerous events, from the Rolex Grand-Am Series to GT Live. VIR is the only East Coast location that hosts GT Live. We also host racing go-karts, several motorcycle events, as well as many private testing sessions. Cars that test here range from open-wheel to NASCAR. Cars worth several thousand dollars to a million dollars traverse our many turns.
The Emergency Services Department performs a wide variety of tasks at the track. We handle the treatment and transportation of injured persons. We extinguish fires, respond to and handle all incidents on the racing surface, and remove damaged vehicles from the racing surface. We handle flat-tows of vehicles that become disabled on the track. VIR EMS also handles all medical calls in the Paddock areas and spectator area during events. Currently we operate five ambulances, three crash-fire vehicles, two wreckers, one rollback, and two quick-response vehicles. EMS also helps with track maintenance as well as any other needs that the track renters and guests may have while visiting our beautiful facility. We train our new employees with a lot of "on the job" work. EMS also has annual training sessions and works with Duke Life Flight on procedures for landing zones and helicopter transportation procedures.
In conclusion, everyone that arrives at our beautiful "Fun, Fast, and World Class" facility will not be in a hurry to leave. The racing is great, the people are friendly, and our employees will go out of their way to help you!
