VIR's Emergency Services Department has over 65 employees on the schedule. All work part-time for VIR. Many are career and/or volunteer firefighters, EMTs, and Paramedics. Several of our employees work at Goodyear or other manufacturing facilities. Some of our staff attends school part- or full-time. Others work in all different aspects of society.
All of VIR's Emergency Service workers are well-trained. We have Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) up to Paramedics. We have Vehicle Extrication Instructors and Emergency Vehicle Operations Class (EVOC) Instructors on staff. All personnel are obviously trained in CPR. We also have a couple of CPR instructors. Many of our members are trained in Hazardous Materials from the Awareness level all the way up to the Specialist level. We can handle much of our own repair work with engine and equipment repair. A couple of our staff even fabricated our Stay-Dry spreaders.

Billy Welch, this is your life! Ok, it is not quite that
dramatic, but here goes. Billy has been working at VIR for over six years. He
retired five years ago from Goodyear. He was a welder and has used his skills at
the track several times to make Fire & Rescue a better place.
Billy is also a Life Member of the Danville Life Saving Crew. He is an EMT-B,
FFI, and a well accomplished scuba diver. He is also certified in about every
rescue class, above and under ground. Billy recently moved into the city of
Danville with his wife Hilda. They have a son and daughter. Hilda has been
trying to get Billy to slow down since he retired, but with little success! When
he does take a break, he enjoys watching old movies, working with stained glass,
traveling, and scuba diving. His favorite groups at the track are NASCAR,
Grand-Am, and any corvettes. Billy states that he enjoys working at the track
because of the vehicles that come to VIR. If it rolls and can be raced, it's
here. The guys and girls we work with are second to none. They are smart, good
at what they do, and fun to be around. They will also help you anyway they can.
There can't be a better place to work or people to work with.
